Quite simply, viewing Abstract art makes my heart beat faster. I have an emotional and visceral response to it. It is addictive. It can transport and enchant; surprise and delight; frustrate and intoxicate. It can allow us to see who we are by what we are not.
The power of abstract art lies with its ability to stir curiosity about the reaches of our imagination. It gives our minds a chance to think and feel and be transported out of our typical mind-set. When we look at a painting we recognise or that feels safe, we remain static within our normal and reassuring state of self. But when we engage with artwork that has no physical parallel with our lives we are instantly carried out of our original mind-set and the journey begins.
