Artist Statement

I think of myself as a botanical painter…of sorts. I see the garden as a glitchy optical container; my sense of space has been as influenced by video games as it has been by physical landscape. For me the garden is always a type of virtual landscape, which in part is intentionally constructed but is also shaped by the unintentional. These paintings are the same; they’ve grown and changed over time. There’s resilience and fragility held simultaneously within the garden space, it’s a space that can reflect back at us the seasonality of being alive. This body of work is an exploration of garden moments from the past year that have stayed tangled in my mind’s eye long after the physical petals and leaves have fallen
