Through my work with unwanted, everyday objects, I aim to encourage conversation about how we might reuse more, and throw away less. My process begins with a deliberate interception of these objects on the brink of abandonment, rescuing them from landfill oblivion. A careful process of deconstruction and removing the layers of dark varnish, wax and fixings revealing the components as materials, ready for use once more. The use of repetition often produces multiples which can be compared to an industrial production line. For these works I have continued exploring with remaining parts of discarded beech chairs used within my degree show. Applying brightly coloured paint is experimental and playful, giving new life and meaning to them offering the viewer the chance to re-appreciate them.
