Artist Statement
In photography there is a desire to rationalise your output as a curated creative vision. However, in capturing the reality that surrounds us we must come to accept that it will always ignore the vision and present extraordinary visual experiences.
My background is heavily placed in technicality and science, but I allow my mind to let go of that need for absolute answers to capture a space, a moment or a vision of what I am experiencing at that time. My work over the past 3 decades has allowed me to let go of a lot of these preconceptions as I document nature, people and humanity. Demonstrating their interactions and how they shape what is presented to me as I press the shutter.
I treat landscapes, people, objects with the same respect for their present state, showing only that as presented. My hope is that what I capture as a point in time, others can experience the same feeling that surrounds me when I do.
I have been honoured to have my work in multiple national publications, the National Portrait gallery of Scotland and continue to have others enjoy it as long as I can continue to create it.
