Artist’s Statement
It takes me an immeasurable time to complete a painting, weeks sometimes months. I work on them exclusively until I cannot adjust anything. They start of with a skeletal structure then develop into more complex pieces.
Objects and observation interest me. Curating by: date, colour, pattern or any other means is how I develop my work. I also enjoy a technical challenge and seek out complicated textures and forms. I love the effects that are available when using watercolour.
The compositional works of Elizabeth Blackadder have been of influence to me as has Victoria Crowe’s use of paint and glazes and the brilliance of the visual understanding of life displayed by Arthur Melville and Joseph Crawhall.
The objects in these 3 compositions have been gathered or received over decades and symbolise themes, relationships and progress through life, on a larger scale they represent how the disparate elements of being can be brought together harmoniously.
