Artist Statement
I would say I try to strike a balance between confident economical drawing and loose handling of paint to render the figure/face. I enjoy the material qualities of the paint and charcoal and try to emphasize this in my work.
I'm also interested a lot in the space around the person and try to situate them in that space so the painting may become a believable space for the viewer to enter. I try to create a harmony in my pictures between the physical world and the artificiality of a two dimensional painted version of it.
