The ever-changing light in the Scottish landscape transforms the scene continuously, presenting a dynamic challenge for traditional artistic boundaries. My current practice seeks to recreate the essence of this landscape within these constraints. By layering images, I create depth that invites the viewer into focused areas of interest, contrasted with more peripheral, hazy segments.
My love for outdoor swimming draws me to the water's edge, where the reflective and refractive qualities of the water interact with the elements of land and sky. This interplay simplifies the landscape into studies of line, shape, and colour. I use translucent layers of chalky gesso, along with glossy inks and acrylics, to paint, rub, and scrape, effectively capturing the contrasting textures of the natural environment. Through this technique, I aim to convey the multifaceted beauty and complexity of the Scottish landscape.
