Alan Robb RSA was born in Glasgow in 1946 and grew up in Aberdeen. He studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen from 1964-1969, and then at the Royal College of Art, London from 1969-1972.

In 1980 Robb took up a post at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, where he stayed for twenty years, becoming Professor of Fine Art in 1989 and then Head of Fine Art. A large-scale retrospective of Robb’s work was held at the McManus Gallery, Dundee, in 2011.

Robb's  worked with found objects, making models before he commited a composition to canvas. His work often absorbed religious iconography while also referencing Pop Art, geology and classical architecture. This cross of ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture melded into a giddying world rife with potent symbolism.
