Alan has work in private collections in the UK and USA. Primarily working in oils, his subject matter is largely landscape based, hoping to weave the instant of being somewhere and somewhen, with the longer experience of distillation into painted imagery. The coastal environment is also a long-standing source of fascination, sometimes represented simply as witnessed by him, at other times acting as a stage-set in which marine architecture is reimagined in an attempt to understand the bewildering strangeness of the edge of one world and the beginning of another, and the quiet spirituality that can be found there.
