“Jewellery informed by the process of gathering details, intuitive making and sensitive contemplation.”
Laura Cruikshank’s work is process driven where the rhythms of observing, drawing, gathering, and makingoverlap. This allows a continual progression and development of compositions which are playfully arranged andrearranged amongst an ever-growing library of abstracted forms, textures and the study of subtle movement.
Direct connection to materials through a love of traditional techniques such as; lost wax casting, chasing, keumboo, filigree and chain making, combine to inform an in-depth exploration of shape, texture, tone andmovement.
Maintaining a working pace that allows time and space for contemplation and serendipitous discovery ofcomposition is integral to the work. Each element is constructed with meticulous care and patience andembodies the time and enjoyment imbued by the making process.
This current collection aims to inspire
I work intuitively with my materials in response to myenvironment, focussing on fine details I aim to abstractfrom nature building compositions slowly over time fromindividually made elements. Colour, texture and fragilitycombine playfully and I seek to retain an element ofsurprise both for myself and the wearer.
