Tegan Chaffer explores the idea of home as a complex and conflicting environment. Her painting process involves imagining surfaces’ edges as strict boundaries defining an area over which she exercises complete control. This is reinforced by the miniature scale of her work, which allows for intense manipulation and domination of the space. In her paintings, Tegan builds interior scenes featuring discreet details to represent the strangeness and duplicity of a home. She analyses the home as a private, nostalgic setting for comfort and self-expression, whilst also depicting the claustrophobic atmosphere of the home as a potentially confining space.
Tegan Chaffer recently graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree inPainting. She specialises in small scale oil paintings of interior scenes which examine the complexity ofthe home environment. Following her degree show, she has been selected for several upcoming graduateexhibitions in 2024.
